Anilao, Philippines – Macro Heaven for Underwater Photographers


Anilao is a prime destination for divers and underwater photographers, especially macro and muck diving enthusiasts. The reefs here are very healthy, boast an incredible diversity of marine life and are a part of the extensive network of 1,500+ marine protected areas in the Philippines. The first dive center opened its doors in Anilao way back in 1966. Now, dozens of dive resorts are scattered along the steep coastline overlooking the picturesque Balayan bay, home to over 40 dive sites. Anilao dives are never boring, packed with unexpected sightings of rare and strange critters and colorful und unusual reef fish – my personal favorite. The sleepy little town is located just past the Batangas province, a 3-hour drive south of Manila, Philippines. I spent a week in Anilao at CBR (Crystal Blue Resort) back in November 2014.
