A beautiful black grouper (Mycteroperca bonaci) on a Bahamian reef.  Like all groupers, this species is a protogynous hermaphrodite. Reproductive activity is from November through May with no  consistent lunar pattern.  Spawning aggregations have been reported throughout its range - from the Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Cuba and Florida.
